Algeria Football– JS Kabylie goalkeeper Gaya Merbah continues to progress in his rehabilitation after a serious injury sustained during a friendly match against US Biskra in mid-September. Hit in the leg with a double fracture in the tibia, he had emergency surgery the same day at the Nedir Mohamed hospital in Tizi Ouzou. Today, the news is encouraging for the Kabyle doorman, who recently shared a video on Instagram where he trains on a bike, a sign that his condition is improving.
In the early stages of his rehabilitation, Merbah had to rely on crutches to avoid any risk of worsening. But according to a source close to the team, he has now abandoned them, proof that his recovery is following a positive curve. This development was greeted with relief by supporters, managers, and coach Abdelhak Benchikha. The latter hope that Merbah will be back on the pitch at the start of the return phase of the championship, scheduled for January or February 2025.
Despite his convalescence, Gaya Merbah remains close to his team. He regularly attends training sessions and matches to motivate his teammates. This moral role testifies to his importance not only on the field but also in the locker room.
No new goalkeeper in the transfer window: the JSK has decided
After Merbah’s injury, rumors circulated about the recruitment of a new goalkeeper during the winter transfer window. However, the leaders of the JSK decided to trust their goalkeeper and to wait for the progress of his recovery. This decision, reinforced by Merbah’s progress, turns out to be judicious, because a possible recruitment would have involved high costs for a player with no guarantee of immediate performance.
Merbah’s operation, performed using the locked intramedullary nailing technique, significantly reduced his recovery time. Unlike a traditional intervention, which would have required six months of rest, this method will allow the goalkeeper to return to competition in just four months. If everything goes as planned, Merbah will return to the cages next January, to the great joy of JSK and its supporters.
His return is expected as a breath of fresh air for a team that is counting on his experience and leadership to return to the top.
