A fire devastates an apartment building in Nicolet

The blaze apparently started shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday morning in the building on rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste.

“We are talking about a general alert, which means that all the firefighters available to us have gone to the site. There are still around thirty on the ground Wednesday morning,” explains the spokesperson for the City of Nicolet, Sébastien Turgeon.

Wednesday morning, the fire was still raging in the building. The firefighters were still in defensive mode, the fire chief confirmed.

“The images we see this morning lead us to believe that the damage is significant,” confirms Mr. Turgeon.

However, it is too early at this time to determine the causes of the blaze.

In total, five occupants and a dog were evacuated and two transports to hospital were necessary. Some victims were supported by the Red Cross.
