Six Days In Fallujah Developers Realize That Making A Game Is Complicated

While they had planned to add AI partners to Six Days in Fallujah shortly after the early access release, the developers announced a few days ago that this feature was being postponed again. They estimate that it should finally be ready during the third trimester, which will only be a year and a half late. According to them, the fact of having to program credible and effective behavior both outdoors and indoors is a first in video games, and they realize that it is really complicated. On the other hand, since the maps are generated procedurally, it is obviously impossible to define the routes by hand.

As a reminder, Six Days in Fallujah is a tactical game, currently only cooperative for up to four players, putting you in the shoes of an American soldier who has come to spread democracy with M4s in the suburbs of Fallujah. The game claims a certain historical realism, since it takes place during the famous – and very bloody – second battle of Fallujah. But be careful, “no politics in my video game”, we are here for entertainment. And on this side, surprisingly enough, it is rather good, as we indicated in our preview.

We would like to believe that developing intelligent AI is not an easy task.

The announcement’s Steam blog post makes a lot of noise about making excuses, but there’s nothing really concrete to sink your teeth into. We will therefore have to wait a little longer to find out what will happen in the game. First, if we understand correctly, a new patch – but without the allied AI – should still arrive soon. The comments on the Steam forum obviously criticize the slowness of development, and some call it a scam, arguing that the communication around the game was precisely centered on this super mouse AI. No doubt fans of onanism, even though everyone knows that it’s much more fun with four people.

In the meantime, if you are interested, you can find the early access of Six Days in Fallujah on Steam for €39.
