Forest fires head north in Port-Cartier

The City of Port-Cartier provided an update regarding the forest fires. Since this morning, they have been very active. However, they are heading north because of the winds coming from the southeast.

The two fires threatening Port-Cartier are still considered out of control.

SOPFEU teams intervene on the ground. Watering with air tankers and helicopters is underway.

Despite the lifting of the evacuation order on June 24, the City of Port-Cartier reminds that the state of emergency is maintained and that citizens must remain on alert.

A critical day

On the Sept-Îles side, the Municipality is expecting a critical day.

“Given the weather conditions prevailing today, the day promises to be critical in terms of forest fires. We expect an increase in their intensity and a significant progression,” indicates the City of Sept-Îles in its daily update of the situation.

Fortunately, the fire will progress towards the north, away from inhabited areas.

SOPFEU continues its work with ground teams and aerial watering

“Rain is expected on Wednesday, which should help reduce the intensity of the fires and give some respite to teams on the ground. However, the game is not won. We must expect long-term work, over several weeks, to put out these fires,” says the City of Sept-Îles.
