A 146% increase in tomato prices over one year

The prices of the main commodities at the Bir El Kassaa Wholesale Market, in October 2024, show an increase in the selling prices of most varieties of fruits, vegetables and fish, oscillating between 146% to 1 319 millimes/kg for tomatoes and 94% for pears at 6,595 millimes/kg, according to indicators published by the National Agricultural Observatory (Onagri).

Regarding fruit, the price increase concerned the prices of apples, an increase of 53% to 3,501 millimes/kg and of Thomson by 17% to reach 1,167 millimes/kg. Note that the quantities of apples and pears have marked a decline.

For other fruits, the increase in prices concerned grapes (+5%), sold at 5,253 millimes/kg and dates (+3%) sold at 6,400 millimes/kg).

On the other hand, a drop in the prices of other fruits was recorded in October 2024 compared to October 2023, which concerned the prices of grenadines and lemon.

The prices of several vegetables also recorded an increase such as tomatoes, with an increase of 146% to 1,319 millimes/kg, parsley by 70% to 1,836 millimes/kg, carrots by 41% sold at 1,367 millimes/kg), onions by 32% to 1,237 and potatoes by 9% to 1,600.

Fish, all varieties combined, experienced an increase in prices and a decrease in supply between October 2023 and October 2024.
