It is a decision which was unfortunately expected and which will surely have an impact until the Saisons de hypermarketin Chauconin-Neufmontiers. Tuesday November 5, 2024, Auchan officially unveiled its recovery plan, the biggest in its history, to deal with the financial difficulties of the Mulliez family food brand.

The cessation of these activities in Russia, with the sale of its subsidiary two and a half years after the start of the invasion of Ukraine, forced Auchan to redress its activities in , in vain.

The supermarket giant was therefore forced to make decisions to maintain itself. Closures of stores and warehouses, reorganization of hypermarkets, merger of services… The new plan must reconnect with the rprofitability of Auchan.

Reduction of sales area

In the Les Saisons de Meaux shopping center, the Auchan store will indeed remain open. But some changes are expected. Like 65 stores in France, the Chauconin-Neufmontiers supermarket should reduce your sales area by 25%. Vacant spaces could be occupied by other brands.

The group now wants to cap its hypermarkets between 8,000 and 10,000 m².

The objective is to reduce the range of products sold in the store, particularly non-food, due to growing competition from online commerce. So how will this translate? “Each store will work according to its specificities and the new commercial project” we are told. Details for the Chauconin-Neufmontiers store still remain unclear.

What about jobs?

This reduction in surface area and the reduction in certain radii are accompanied by dismissal of several employees. The distributor announced the elimination of 2,389 positions in France in its recovery plan, or nearly 5% of its workforce. Victim of competition with online sales, in all Auchan hypermarkets in France, employees of EEGP services (Consumer electronic equipment) will disappear to make way for “Full LS”, or “self-service”.

Unions rely on negotiations with management toeclassify as many employees as possible in the other entities of the Mulliez galaxy. The group's main brands are Leroy-Merlin, Décathlon, Boulanger, Kiabi, Pimkie, Flunch, Norauto, Kiloutou, Cultura, Brice, Jules, etc.

When questioned, Auchan did not give more details on the number of positions that could be eliminated at Chauconin-Neufmontiers. Each store will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
