The smell of smoke that reigned in the center of Épernay this Monday, November 18, 2024 shortly before 8 p.m. did not bode well. It came from 25 bis, rue de l’Hôpital Auban-Moët. This is the dead end portion of the street, behind the Jean-Monnet college. The fire broke out in a residential building, fortunately unoccupied.
When firefighters arrived, the building was already largely engulfed in flames. The entire ground floor was engulfed in flames that had spread upstairs. Spread to neighboring buildings was avoided. An initial inspection of the scene suggested that no casualties were to be reported. The house was unoccupied but it could be squatted according to local residents.
Significant risk of collapse
Significant resources were involved with the firefighters of Épernay, Tours-sur-Marne and Montmort-Lucy under the command of Lieutenant Perdreau. Two ton pump vans were on site and four hoses were in action. The large ladder was deployed to carry out aerial reconnaissance. An ambulance (VSAV) was also ready in case… Soon, reinforcements arrived, in particular the electro-ventilator vehicle from the Reims-Witry barracks, allowing the lighting of the scene of the disaster and their ventilation or ventilation. A personnel rehabilitation truck was also engaged.
