We are currently witnessing a significant change happening with the Canadiens head coach, Martin St-Louis.
Indeed, the latter is starting to take the bull by the horns and he no longer blindly defends his players, he does not hesitate to point the finger at them.
And he is right to do so. The players are young, but they are professionals and they must accept their mistakes.
We notably saw Martin tell his four truths to Arber Xhekaj, Juraj Slafkovsky, Jayden Struble and Cayden Primeau, among others.
For Primeau’s record, with his last atrocious performance in the victory against the Buffalo Sabers (victory on the record of Samuel Montembeault), we wondered if he was going to play again with the Canadian.
What is certain is that the organization’s confidence in him is very weakened and this has now been confirmed.
Samuel Montembeault has never been the Canadian’s number 1 goalie beyond any doubt, even though he very rarely has more than two starts in a row.
Well he will be automatically for a 3rd time in a row, and even more if we count his end of the match last Monday, in Buffalo.
What is not entirely certain about this lineup is the presence of Justin Barron or Jayden Struble.
According to some journalists, it is Barron who will suffer from the return of David Savard, but we know that Martin St-Louis intended to leave Struble aside before Savard lowered his flag. Let’s wait and see.
For Cayden Primeau, the presence of Samuel Montembeault once again in front of the cage confirms that the coach no longer really has confidence. If his habits are anything to go by, St. Louis probably would have given him a start.
Now, it’s Samuel Montembeault again and quite honestly, I believe that it is deserved and that we must stop persisting with Cayden Primeau.
The sample is large enough to know what he can give in the NHL, and the word that comes to mind is inconsistency.
