To expand the range of equipment dedicated to artistic practices and dissemination in the region, the City of Montauban is building a new Current music scene (Smac). Integrating rehearsal and training spacesthis new generation room, located in Eurythmie, aims to “constitute an efficient place in terms of space, reception and equipment”.
Part of the City Heart Action plan, this cultural facility is also intended to be a permanent living space:
- for its users first of all by being a meeting space between artists, professionals, amateurs and the general public;
- for the territory as well, because this equipment will contribute to its influence and attractiveness.
A concert hall and four studios
The new building will cover 1,469 m² and will accommodate a concert hall with a capacity ranging from 410 to 1,136 people (up to 598 seats), four rehearsal studiosa recording room, a training room, dressing rooms, technical rooms, as well as a convivial space.
The old station will be redeveloped over an area of nearly 140 m² and will notably accommodate offices, including those of the Le Rio association, main user of Smac.
The public space in front of the buildings will be redeveloped in order to perfect the integration of the structures into the landscape of this district. There new Montalbanese room plans to open at the end of 2025.
A certified room
The equipment will accommodate the Le Rio association, holder of the Smac label in Tarn-et-Garonne, and whose old site – due to its size and limited stage infrastructure – no longer made it possible to respond to its success.
Issued by the Ministry of Culture, the “Scène de musiques contemporains – Smac” label must meet specific specifications setting out the objectives and missions of the structure. “The City's desire is to have a project of high architectural and scenographic quality, fully playing its role as a “cultural beacon” and an urban signal,” specifies the municipality.
A budget of 12 million euros
To carry out this project, the City of Montauban decided to use a global performance market, including the design, construction and maintenance of the new equipment.
The building is part of an approach to sustainable development aiming to be efficient in terms of energy efficiency, but also respectful of the environment. Estimated amount of studies and works: €12,046,615 excluding tax.
This cost includes the design and construction of the new building, the repair of the Eurythmie roof, the energy renovation of the room and the partial redevelopment of the old station.
