“We decided with independentist municipalities and loyalist municipalities not to pursue an empty chair policy. It was therefore proposed that I take this presidency so that we can also bring the voice of New Caledonia to the highest national decision-making levels and that we can have the support of other elected officials from Overseas”, explained the mayor of La Foa, at the end of October, before flying to Guadeloupe where the 32e association congress. A meeting at the end of which Florence Rolland was therefore designated as the future successor to Jean-Claude Maës, mayor of Capesterre de Marie-Galante, in Guadeloupe, at the head of the ACCD’OM since 2023.

“It is more crucial than ever to unite”

This election is a “tremendous pride” for Générations NC, the movement to which the mayor of La Foa belongs. “This association, which represents 80% of the overseas population, brings together the municipalities of New Caledonia, the four overseas departments, French Polynesia and Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, and has the main objective of raising the profile of voice of the French overseas, at the levels national and European, and to ensure that the specificities of our communities are fully taken into account, specifies Nina Julié, spokesperson for the party.

In such a particular context, marked in particular by the interference of certain nations hostile to which are working to destabilize its overseas territories, it is more crucial than ever to unite in order to reaffirm our anchoring in the French nation and to ensure that the State is fully attentive to our issues.”

As the leaders of the movement had already indicated at a press conference, Florence Rolland should be particularly keen to plead in favor of the communes of Caillou, whose coffers have been drained since the riots and over which there is a threat of being put under surveillance. state supervision.
