This morning, Monday November 18, 2024, around 7:30 a.m., a fire broke out in Cusset, rue de l'hôtel Dieu. The fire pierced the roof of a building which was completely evacuated.
49 firefighters from Vichy, Saint Germain-des-Fossés, Lapalisse, Moulins, Paray-sous-Briailles and Saint-Gérand-le-Puy are on the scene. 37 people, including one in a relative emergency, were evacuated and taken care of. The resident of the apartment where the fire started is still being sought.
The burning building adjoins a retirement home. It was not impacted by the disaster and is the gathering place for evacuees.
The site of the disaster is closed to traffic.
The person sought on the 4th floor of the apartment where the fire started was found deceased. 3 victims were declared in relative emergency: a 66-year-old woman transported to Vichy hospital, 1 firefighter with minor burns and 1 police officer having inhaled smoke. Emergency services are continuing their actions to bring the fire under control.
