According to the provisional results made public this Sunday, November 17 by the Minister of the Interior and Security, the referendum vote organized 24 hours earlier recorded the unequivocal victory of the YES with nearly 92% of the votes. At less than 54%, the participation rate did not do better

Gabon adopted a new Constitution this weekend. The referendum organized on Saturday across the entire national territory and in several cities outside the country recorded the overwhelming victory of the YES.
Of the 463,066 who cast their ballot in the ballot box, 416,983 chose to adopt the draft Constitution submitted to them, or 91.80% of the votes. 37,302 answered “No” to the only question in this consultation, or 8.20% of the votes.
For many, this result is obvious given the means deployed by the authorities and its numerous and diverse supporters to convince the Gabonese to “move to another stage of transition”, to prepare for what comes next.
As part of this referendum consultation, 868,115 Gabonese people were registered on the electoral list. Compared to the number of voters who exercised their civic duty, the participation rate stood at 53.54%. A failure for the authorities who hoped for more.
