The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is ending its search to find a person who has been missing since a fatal fire which ravaged a residence over the weekend in Saint-Georges, in Beauce.
“After new information obtained during the investigation, we confirm that there was ultimately only one person inside the residence,” said Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec. Quebec, in interview Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the fire on 120th Avenue on Friday evening, around 5:00 p.m.
Initially, authorities were looking for two men who were missing, a man in his fifties and a man in his sixties.
The victim was discovered in the rubble on Saturday, but further expertise will be required to confirm his identity.
“An autopsy will be carried out to confirm the identification,” said the SQ spokesperson.
Searches at the fire site ended Sunday morning.
“The major crimes investigation division of the Sûreté du Québec will determine whether there is a criminal aspect to the case. The investigation is continuing in collaboration with the coroner to determine the circumstances of the fire,” said Élizabeth Marquis-Guy.
