Tomato prices have risen further in the Kingdom’s markets. The price per kilo reached seven dirhams, which angered consumers who were expecting a drop in prices.
Contacted by Le Site info, a professional in the sector indicated that the main reason for this price surge is export to foreign markets.
“Professionals are not against exports to Africa but we demand its regulation and rationalization. Foreign markets have always had strict requirements for importing vegetables from Morocco. These requirements cover several aspects, including product quality, food safety, packaging, and compliance with environmental and social standards. This is not the case for African countries which do not have import conditions, which affects local supply and drives up vegetable prices,” explains our source.
And to emphasize that most vegetables increased by around two dirhams despite the latest rainfall recorded in the Kingdom.
