They are appeared before the eyes of the world entire during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, on the evening of Friday July 26, 2024. One of the statues, gold in color, is of interest to the City of Poissy (Yvelines).
During September, Mayor Sandrine Berno Dos Santos wrote to Anne Hidalgo, her counterpart in Paris, the city that owns the ten “Women in Gold” statues, to request “a loan or deposit” of that representing Christine de Pizan, a major figure in medieval literature.
The municipality wishes to exhibit it on its municipal territory for “the longest possible” period. “We had already contacted the COJO (Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games), but in the meantime they became the property of the City of Paris, which we then contacted, because is Sat really wants », underlines Karine-Emonet Villain, deputy mayor in charge of Culture.
The legacy of the Games
The financial terms of the operation have not been determined at this time. “I know that several cities have contacted Paris town hall, including Nantes, for different statues, but nothing has been decided,” says Karine-Emonet Villain. We are rather confident, because we know that one of the mantras of the City of Paris was the legacy after the Games. »
THE dix statuesare currently on display in the main courtyard of the National Assembly.
“The City of Poissy was very active within the framework of the Olympic Games, welcoming delegations, receiving the passing of the flame, so it is the logical next step. We were very touched to see that Christine de Pizan was one of the ten inspiring women in French History during the opening ceremony. »
Christine de Pizan and Poissy, a shared history
The Cité Saint-Louis and Christine de Pizan have an intimately linked history. The woman of letters, philosopher and poet, born in 1364 in Venice (Italy), died in 1431 in Poissy. She would have spent the last years of her life within the monastery of Poissy .
The Abbey Enclosure, his place of residence, today houses the Toy Museum. The municipal media library and an avenue behind the abbey barn also bear his name. For Sandrine Berno Dos Santos, “this event would be a new opportunity to highlight the essential role that womenhave played and continue to play in History and society.”
“We will continue the legacy of the Games and of this great woman. »
An implementation track at the Toy Museum
According to the City, several sites are being studied to accommodate the statue. The preferred one, without this being definitive since it will be necessary to study the installation constraints, would be near the Abbey Enclosure.
“We want it to be in a busy place, frequented, particularly by the younger generation, so that it continues to inspire as many people as possible. It is also a place which echoes its history and which is on the heritage and tourist route of the city. »
This statue has a other link with Yvelines. Like the nine others, it was manufactured in Sartrouville. In charge, the company Marie 3D.
