Around 4:30 p.m., firefighters from the Quebec Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ) were called for flames as well as smoke coming from a residence on Grenoble Street, in the Sainte-Foy district.
As soon as they arrived, they noticed flames on the roof of the building. Four residents from two homes were evacuated.
According to the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ), approximately 35 firefighters were dispatched to the scene to fight the flames.
Representatives of the Red Cross took charge of the residents in order to relocate them. They were unable to return to their homes. A civil security coordinator was also on site to liaise with the victims and the Red Cross.
Restricted damage
Around 6 p.m., the chief responsible for the intervention declared that the situation was under control. There were no injuries during this intervention.
“The damage is mainly to the roof and attic,” explains Laurence Godbout, spokesperson for the SPVQ.
The fire station’s investigation confirmed that it was a fire caused by work carried out on the attic.
