At the Trois-Rivières courthouse, this Friday, Jimmy Bergeron-Lessard was sentenced to 30 months of imprisonment, who, last August, had pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal negligence causing death.
During the observations on the sentence, the public prosecutor and the defense had precisely proposed a joint suggestion of 30 months of imprisonment, while removing the pre-trial detention.
Judge David Bouchard therefore followed this common suggestion. As of today, by removing pre-trial detention, Jimmy Bergeron-Lessard will have to serve 2 years less 41 days of imprisonment.
In this case, the facts date back to September 2, 2019. Around 11:30 p.m., Jimmy Bergeron-Lessard was driving on the 4th row in Saint-Samuel. He missed a curve. His vehicle rolled over before coming to rest on its roof. His passenger, Caroline Martel, 24 years old from Saint-Samuel, lost her life.
The driver left the scene. The police found him a few hours later in the Sainte-Eulalie area.
