When the firefighters arrived, the 600 m² building was completely engulfed in flames, with an immediate risk of spreading to the adjoining wood stock. In all, 500 m² were reduced to ashesincluding the metal structure of the building.
Significant resources deployed
To control this large-scale fire, firefighters from the neighboring barracks of Limoges, Magnac-Bourg, Saint-Germain-les-Belles and Lubersac were mobilized. In total, 35 firefighters were necessary to extinguish the fire and prevent the flames from spreading further. The teams had to deploy several tens of meters of pipes to supply water, and a traffic diversion was put in place to prevent vehicles from damaging the facilities.
A significant local economic loss
Although the fire, the origin of which remains undetermined for the moment, did not cause any injuries, it represents a heavy loss for the community. The sawmill, established since the 1960s, was a pillar of the local economy, employing three people and providing services to many businesses and individuals in the department.
