Four people, including an infant, were rescued by Haute-Garonne firefighters following carbon monoxide poisoning. Three of them had to be transported urgently to the Purpan University Hospital.
16 firefighters were present on site. Readings confirmed the presence of carbon monoxide in two apartments in a two-story building in the town of Plaisance du Touch. Ventilation of the premises made it possible to make the building safe. But this intervention calls for vigilance.
Carbon monoxide, this colorless and odorless gas comes from poor combustion in a boiler, a water heater or even a fireplace. Poisoning therefore often occurs when temperatures drop when the heaters are turned on again.
The Ministry of Health warns of the risks involved.
Inhaling gas can cause headaches, nausea and vomiting and lead to death in the worst cases.
It is advisable to ventilate your home for at least 10 minutes a day, not to block the ventilation and to have your heating appliances checked.
It is also possible to equip your home with detectors to guard and protect yourself. According to the Ministry of Health and Prevention each year in France 3000 people are victims of carbon monoxide poisoning.
