JThursday evening, around 6:50 p.m., the Brussels firefighters, medical emergency 112 and the Marlow area police intervened for an apartment fire on the 5th floor of a building which has nine in Uccle, Chaussée d’Alsemberg”, says Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the Brussels firefighters.
When help arrived, the stairwell was completely smoked. Several people were evacuated using firefighter ladders.
“During the search, the resident of the affected flat was also evacuated by us. The injured man suffered burns and severe smoke intoxication. He was immediately treated by medical teams and transferred to hospital. Unfortunately, his vital prognosis is in jeopardy. Two other residents of the building, slightly intoxicated, were also taken to hospital,” said the spokesperson.
The outbreak was brought under control and the residents of the building were able to return to their homes. The apartment ravaged by the flames is uninhabitable.
