A 55-year-old man, originally from Albania, appears from this Friday, November 15 before the Charente-Maritime Assize Court, in Saintes. For three days, he will have to answer for the attempted murder of his wife, from whom he was separated.
According to Sud-Ouest, the events took place in La Rochelle on May 19, 2022, when the accused stabbed his ex-partner twice in the chest. The court is also trying him for repeat violence and for having entered French territory despite a return ban.
A history of domestic violence and a deportation violation
This is not the first time that the man has faced justice for acts of violence. In July 2021, he was sentenced by the La Rochelle criminal court to four months in prison for violence and death threats against his wife. At the end of this sentence, he was expelled from French territory with a ban on returning for two years, an order which he clearly did not respect.
Two tragic visits in two days
On May 18, 2022, the accused had already gone to the home of his ex-partner, causing slight injuries. The next day, he returned, this time armed with a knife, and managed to strike his ex-wife twice in the chest. The couple's 16-year-old son's attempted intervention was not enough to prevent the attack.
A high-voltage trial
This trial highlights a case of domestic violence which almost turned into a tragedy. The man will face charges of attempted murder as a repeat offender, as well as violations of the law in connection with his deportation. The course of these three days of hearing promises to be intense, as the court will attempt to shed light on this series of violent acts.
