The food aid service of the Intercommunal Social Action Center (Cias) is essential for many families in the Pays de L’Aigle (Orne). After having distributed 41,442 meals in 2022 and 38,951 in 2023, it already totals 26,439 for this year, at the end of September. In 2024, 248 households, made up of 298 adults and 250 children, will benefit from food aid and we note an increase of 63% of the number of new registrants over this period.
The average age of beneficiaries is 27 years old
The largest proportion of people with access to the service are RSA recipients, followed by residents without resources, poor workers and job seekers receiving France Travail compensation. With a average age of 27the beneficiaries are mainly The EagleThen La Ferté-en-Ouche, Rai et Dawn.
The activity of food aid is experiencing a slowdown, although the social situation in Pays de L’Aigle does not seem to be improving, according to a recent study carried out to establish the health contract with the Regional Health Agency. At Cias, we wonder if some people don’t go to the Restos du coeur, or if they don’t dare to call on the help service. Unless it’s an information problem.
All elected officials in our area are aware and they provide us with information when they spot families in difficulty. These are our relays on the ground.
Food aid is most often distributed by appointment at its new premises on rue Victor-Hugo, much more functional than the previous one. But, “for people with health and/or mobility problems, we can go to their home”.
Become one of 150 volunteers
The needs of the service remain very important and, in addition to regular donations of Leclerc and the Food bankCias must devote part of its budget to making additional purchases. “Most of the time, it’s about ensuring the nutritional balance of the meals we distribute,” explains Emilie Ozanne.

To meet the needs, the service will organize a food collection on November 22 and 23 at the exit of the stores Leclerc, Intermarché, Lidl and Carrefour. Customers will be able to donate rizof the pastaof the canned vegetablesof meat and of poissonof the couchesof the hygiene products… “For this collection to go as smoothly as possible, we need 150 volunteers over the two days.”
People can come for two or three hours if that suits them. Depending on their desires, we organize the schedule also taking into account the store where they want to go.
Agents of the Community of Municipalities, elected officials and partners of the intermunicipal community will join volunteers to inform customers of needs. Enough to form an effective team for the good of families in difficulty.
If you have some time to devote to the food collection on November 22 and 23, you can register directly at the Cias reception (place du Parc, opposite Dolto) or by email at the address [email protected]
