Price and stock control: the DRC adopts the TALO application

A lack of information on the quantities of goods available on the market can be a source of inflation. The manipulation of the shortage by unscrupulous traders is sometimes the cause. Ensuring that such practices do not occur is an issue of economic and social equity.

The “TALO” application, developed by young Congolese talents, marks a step forward in the economic control of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Presented to the Council of Ministers on Friday, November 8 by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Economy, Daniel Mukoko Samba, this innovation will allow real-time monitoring of commercial practices and stock flows, thus strengthening transparency and price regulation.

The “TALO” application integrates two key modules: a mobile module designed for field investigators, which will allow them to collect and centralize price data on a weekly basis, and a platform dedicated to economic operators. This second module offers companies the possibility of directly submitting information on their stocks, prices charged and pricing structures, in compliance with current regulations. This system aims to improve the transparency of commercial practices and strengthen economic regulation for the benefit of consumers.

The adoption of the TALO application reflects the Congolese government’s desire to strengthen transparency and restore the confidence of economic operators as well as the population in economic control. Daniel Mukoko Samba underlined that this initiative aims to transform control missions into real regulatory tools, far from abuse, in order to guarantee a more reliable and equitable commercial environment.

The TALO application is part of a global approach aimed at strengthening economic regulation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In addition to a series of supervisory and regulatory measures, the application allows for more transparent and efficient management of economic controls. It makes it possible in particular to strengthen compliance with established standards, to evaluate control missions, and to ensure respect for the right to adversarial proceedings for economic operators. Furthermore, it facilitates the collection of complaints and the detection of possible abuse.

Thanks to this system, the government hopes to create a fairer economic framework, promoting better transparency and the confidence of economic players. Raising awareness among operators through the dissemination of a guide on economic control is also a key element to guarantee a more regulated business environment conducive to investments in the DRC.
