The event was marked by the presence of a CM2 class from the central school. Before the announcement, a tribute was paid to Jean-Luc Schneider, a bookseller and publisher recognized for his significant work in the Indian Ocean region.
During the literary awards ceremony organized in Saint-Denis, two works were distinguished and one received a special mention.
Rachid Benzine, with his work The silences of the fatherspublished by Éditions du Seuil, was honored with the Grand Prix du Novel Métis 2024. Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse, for her novel The convoy, published by Flammarion, won the Métis Novel Prize from Readers of the City of Saint-Denis 2024. The special mention was awarded to Éric Chacour for his book What I know about you, published by Éditions Philippe Rey, as part of the same Grand Prix.
The winners will receive their prize on December 3, 2024 during a ceremony at Château Morange, in Saint-Denis.
These prices are organized by La Réunion des Livres for the city of Saint-Denis in La Réunion and the DAC Réunion – Directorate of Cultural Affairs with the support of La Sofia – Action Culturelle.
In 2023, the Grand Prix du Novel Métis saluted Xavier Le Clerc for A man without a title (Gallimard) and the Métis Novel Prize of the Readers of the City of Saint-Denis had distinguished Marie-Claude Derby for I’ll see you girl (Editions of December 20).
