A major fire broke out on Wednesday November 13 in a silo containing 60 tonnes of sunflowers in Beaune (Côte-d'Or). Around fifty firefighters were mobilized to control the flames. The silo now threatens to collapse.
Large-scale intervention on Wednesday November 13 in the early afternoon, around 2:30 p.m., in Beaune (Côte-d'Or). A silo containing around 60 tonnes of sunflowers caught fire on the site of the Bourgogne du Sud agricultural cooperative, prompting the evacuation of the site, reports France 3 Burgundy Franche-Comté.
The fire started in a grain dryer for a reason still unknown. It caused significant smoke releases visible for several kilometers in the surrounding area. Firefighters were immediately alerted and intervened with numerous vehicles and large ladders.
No toxicity or pollution
The area was evacuated, the perimeter secured and the road cut off so as not to take any risks. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. A sub-prefect of Beaune went to the site to monitor the evolution of the situation, specifies France Blue Burgundy. The burned grain dryer is now in danger of collapsing.
At the start of the evening, the fire was contained, but firefighters were still on site to secure the area. In total, around fifty firefighters, supported by police and gendarmes, intervened. According to the prefecture, the smoke from the fire “does not present any specific toxicity” and there is no risk of pollution.
