Last night, the workers of the City of Val-d’Or (CUPE 128) voted 91% in favor of the agreement in principle reached with the City. The employment contract will be valid from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2029 and provides for a minimum of 21.5% salary increase in addition to the integration of a new salary scale on December 1, 2024. This will have the impact of increasing even further the income of certain workers.
Among the negotiated benefits, there is an improvement in working conditions for probationary, temporary, seasonal and part-time employees as well as an improvement in floating leave, bonuses and group insurance. In addition, employees will now benefit from an early retirement clause and will be able to access additional weeks of vacation more quickly.
Remember that the talks began on May 30, 2023. In addition to the 25 days of negotiations, the union side participated in the evaluation of all the job titles covered by its accreditation to arrive at the creation of the new salary scale.
“The parties had a common objective, that of finding a way to retain the workforce in the City of Val-d’Or and to allow union members to offer quality services to the population. . It’s mission accomplished! And, in our opinion, the improved working conditions will also make it possible to attract qualified candidates,” explained Geneviève Carrier, union advisor.
