The National Players Association (NBPA) has taken proactive steps to contact the family of Kyle Singler, the former Duke talent and NBA player, following a disturbing Instagram video in which he expressed fears for his safety. The video, released Tuesday, sparked serious concern within the basketball community.

In a statement to The Associated Press on Wednesday morning, NBPA spokesperson Sarah Houseknecht said: “We are currently in contact with Kyle’s family. As with all current and former players, we stand ready to providing comprehensive support in both triumphant and difficult times.”

In the initial video, Singler, appearing shirtless and speaking in a halting manner, expressed deep distress over his current situation. The clip quickly went viral, racking up more than 12,000 shares as fans, teammates and other players rallied around it.

“I was mistreated and abused, neglected, made into a mental example,” Singler revealed. “I fear for my life every day. My community sees me as a potential problem when I am truly striving to be a positive force.”

Singler’s subsequent videos have offered insight into his ongoing struggles, but also show a glimmer of recovery, him expressing gratitude to those who care about his well-being. The latest upload contained a message of thanks for the “real ones” willing to sacrifice for others, encapsulating his journey with thoughtful words of wisdom.

The NBA community reacted quickly to his first post, with several prominent players offering their support. Kevin Love expressed, “I love you Kyle. Don’t hesitate to contact me.” Isaiah Thomas responded by saying, “I’m here for you bro! Always and forever.” Andre Drummond added: “You’re not alone bro! I’m here for you.” Their posts included tagging the Duke men’s basketball and NBA accounts, hoping to draw attention to the situation.
