Criminal investigation opened in Gouarec after the death of a 70-year-old man [Vidéo]

“All I can say is that it was a tragedy that happened in Gouarec.” Jérôme Lejart, mayor of Gouarec (22) did not expect to experience such a day, this Wednesday, November 13. It was around 9:30 a.m. that he was informed that a gendarmerie operation was underway in his town. Shortly before, morning walkers also saw armed, helmeted gendarmes at the corner of the small multipurpose room. They monitor the building known as the “former gendarmerie” which houses municipal housing. Just like two gendarmes stationed a few dozen meters further, behind the pharmacy.

Another gendarme is hiding in front of the pharmacy. Passersby are surprised by this presence, very unusual in the town center. The police HQ is at the town hall and no one has been able to enter since mid-morning. Several vehicles loaded with men came as reinforcements around 1 p.m. They are in civilian clothes, hooded…

At the local bistro, the comments are going well. “There’s something going on for sure. So many gendarmes, we’ve never seen that,” said one of the customers. Another is thinking of an exercise. The reality is that police and soldiers are there for an ongoing affair in Gouarec. Around 3 p.m., the gendarmes blocked Rue Nationale, between two intersections. They invade the building and are followed, a few minutes later, by criminal identification technicians.

What happened? “At this stage of the investigations, I confirm that a criminal investigation is underway,” informs Nicolas Heitz, public prosecutor who specifies that a 70-year-old man died in Gouarec and that an autopsy will be carried out this Thursday 14 November, at the Rennes Forensic Institute. Two people were taken into custody on Wednesday. The investigation was entrusted to the research brigade of the Guingamp gendarmerie company. The prosecutor should communicate on the case during the day on Thursday.
