While walking a friend's dog along a towpath on Sunday evening in Marcq-en-Barœul, near Lille (North), Daniel Becquet, a fifty-year-old well-known at riverside taverns, was stabbed to death. Three men were presented to a judge and indicted on Tuesday evening as part of an investigation opened for “involuntary manslaughter in a state of obvious intoxication”, the Lille prosecutor's office tells us. All three deny the facts.
“The facts are disputed” by the suspects, according to the Lille prosecutor. Two were temporarily imprisoned, the third placed under judicial supervision. A fourth person is also being sought. The police initially reported the arrest of only one person, described as homeless.
After the attack, which took place near a DIY store and a fast food establishment, a jogger, an emergency doctor, had performed first aid procedures and attempted cardiac massage, in vain, indicated a municipal source.
Daniel Becquet was well known in the taverns in the Marcq-en-Barœul area. To the point that several establishment owners or customers have paid tribute to him on social networks. “Today, we lost much more than a loyal customer, we lost the ray of sunshine on the dance floor,” wrote the team at La Guinguette de Marquette-Saint André, describing a man endowed with “contagious energy” and “always a smile on your face”.
And to detail: “His joy of life, his generosity, his big heart, all of this made him an essential regular for us. (…) We will remember his dance steps just for him and his good humor. Thank you Daniel, you will be the star of the 2024 tavern! »
