Microsoft has been offering a brand new Windows 11 24H2 update for a few hours, KB5046617. It arrives on the occasion of Patch Tuesday in November 2024.
Being part of a major monthly maintenance, KB5046617 focuses on security with the correction of 30 vulnerabilities including 29 of significant severity and one of critical severity. The latter, known under the reference CVE-2024-43625, affects the VMSwitch (Virtual Machine Switch) component. It is problematic when operating a virtualization solution on Windows Server environments. This is an elevation of privilege vulnerability. In short, it allows an unauthorized user to obtain higher privileges than expected.
Installing KB5046617 upgrades the operating system to build number 26100.2314. You can check this by launching “winver.exe in Run (WIN+R).

In parallel with all this is added the content of update KB5044384 offered for several days on an optional basis. We find various improvements and fixes, with particular attention to customization and system performance. Here are the most notable new features.
