Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Djeyhoun Bayramov spoke at a high-level panel on “Glaciers-2025: taking global measures to protect glaciers”, organized within the framework of COP29.
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and other high-level personalities participated in the event.
Minister Jeyhoun Bayramov thanked Tajikistan for organizing this important event dedicated to the theme of glaciers, which constitute one of the main parts of our ecosystem, although they are mostly ignored. He said melting glaciers in many parts of the world had caused dangerous disasters such as floods and landslides. Djeyhoun Bayramov stressed that glaciers, which are rapidly disappearing due to climate change, had shrunk by more than 18% in 7 years, particularly in the Greater Caucasus Mountains and the Gusarchay Basin, which led to an uneven distribution. river resources and the reduction of total freshwater resources in the country. Although the problem of melting glaciers poses a serious threat, coordinated measures taken in this direction are limited, and in this regard, it is hoped that the “International Year of Glacier Protection”, which will be announced in the year next, will be fruitful. Minister Djeyhoun Baïramov invited all international partners to strengthen cooperation in the relevant field in order to ensure the balance of our ecosystem for future generations.
