Rockstar Games has just delivered a surprise update to Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy The Definitive Edition, finally introducing the classic lighting fans have been waiting for.
That’s it, Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy The Definitive Edition is finally entitled to classic lighting on all consoles, a visual setting initially present in the mobile version released at the end of 2023is now making its way to PC and console versions.
Classic lighting, now activated by default, restores the characteristic visual atmosphere of the original games. This feature allows the three iconic titles GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas, to regain their old-world charm, particularly visible in the rendering of the sky and atmospheric effects.

This update isn’t just limited to lighting. It also brings significant improvements to character animations, heat effects, and clouds. Players will also discover bug fixes and gameplay adjustmentsas the ability to run and shoot simultaneously in GTA III and Vice Cityfunctionality present in the original versions.
Interestingly, these improvements come from the work of Video Games Deluxe, the studio responsible for the mobile versions, unlike the PC and console versions initially developed by Grove Street Games. The quality of their work on the mobile version has obviously convinced Rockstar to extend these improvements to all platforms.
This update comes three years after the controversial initial release of the Definitive Edition, which disappointed many fans due to technical and artistic issues. Although some issues persist, this update brings a considerable improvement to the gaming experience.
For fans of the franchise, this update comes at the right time, as the wait for the next opus, Grand Theft Auto 6, still scheduled for fall 2025, is growing. The renovated Trilogy could thus offer an excellent opportunity to rediscover these classics in a new light, more faithful to their original vision.
The update is available now on all platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android.
