who is Axel Rudakubana, the 18-year-old alleged perpetrator of the murder of three girls in July?

Suspected of having killed three little girls in July in England, Axel Rudakubana must be interviewed this Wednesday. The 18-year-old teenager led an uneventful life before the incident.

Born in Wales to a family originally from Rwanda, Axel Rudakubana, 18, is due to be heard before the Liverpool court this Wednesday, November 13. He is suspected of stabbing three little girls to death at the end of July in England.

The facts date back to July 29 in Southport, in the northwest of the country. The knife attack occurred in the middle of school holidays, in a dance club during a children’s activity around the music of Taylor Swift.

Two girls aged 6 and 7 died the same day and a third, aged 9, died the next day. Eight other children and two adults were injured.

Violent anti-immigration protests took place in dozens of cities, fueled by far-right agitators amid Internet rumors about the suspect. He had been wrongly presented as a Muslim asylum seeker even though he was born in Wales to a family originally from Rwanda.

According to testimonies, Axel Rudakubana led an uneventful life before July 29. Interviewed by the Mirror, a neighbor of the teenager’s family described a young man who “never went out” and “came home from school singing”.

Karate and theater lover

According to him, the young man’s family was very involved in the local parish in which the accused served as an altar boy. The high school student, a karate enthusiast, was also part of a theater troupe.

The family had once lived in Cardiff, where Alex Rudakubana was born. In the Welsh capital, we remember a “quiet” and “introverted” child, raised by “an ordinary couple struggling to get by”.

Apart from the murder of the three girls, the teenager was charged with manufacturing ricin, a very powerful poison, but also with a “terrorist” offense after the discovery of an Al-Qaeda manual at his home. The terrorist trail was, however, not included in the investigation into the murders, for which the motivations of the accused remain unknown.

At the end of October, he refused to answer questions from justice in Westminster court. According to his lawyer, Stan Reiz, Axel Rudakubana also remained silent during previous hearings. It remains to be seen whether it will be the same this Wednesday.
