[Audio] USA: what change for Africa after the election of Trump?

In the United States, the Republican candidate, Donald Trump, won the presidential election on November 6, 2024. The Republican thus marks an extraordinary return to power.

For the first time in four years, Republicans have a majority in the Senate. Democratic candidate Kamala Harris conceded her electoral defeat to Donald Trump during a speech in Washington during which the outgoing Democratic vice-president committed to a peaceful transition with her Republican rival while promising to continue to fight for democracy.

And since then, congratulations have been pouring out from all over the world to welcome Donald Trump’s return to business. From the Hungarian President Victor Orban to the Chinese Xi Jipping via the Frenchman Emmanuel Macron, the Israeli Benjamin Netanyahu, they are unanimous even if each leader aims for his own objectives.

So what are the lessons to be learned from this election? What could change for Africa after the election of Donald Trump? Can we fear the return of protectionism to the White House?

Gédéon Vègba and his guests lead the debate in this issue of the Géostratégie show. To be continued here.
