Lhe deputies, who are examining the draft 2025 budget, approved last week the increase in taxation on air transport proposed by the government. The latter, however, agreed to limit the duration of the increase in the solidarity tax on plane tickets (TSBA, known as the “Chirac tax”) to one year and excluding overseas and Corsica from the system. This exclusion, however, raises questions, such a mechanism for adjusting the same tax in 2019 having already been rejected by Brussels. However, European Union law has not changed. In Bercy, the parent company of French taxation, we would not have noticed it… As for the limitation to one year, we must believe in it very strongly, knowing that it is always simpler to renew an existing provision.

The TSBA increase is expected to raise prices on plane tickets for Economy class flights from 2.60 euros per passenger to 9.50 euros, for a European destination, from 7.50 euros to 15 euros for medium-haul destinations, and from 7.50 euros to 40 for long-haul destinations, according to the general budget rapporteur, Charles de Courson (Liot).
