The elected official asks the City to agree with the FWB so that the municipal police can intervene on the site concerned. This would therefore make it possible to consider a reopening. “We ask that everything be done so that this passage between avenue Materne, the swimming pool and rue d’Enhaive is maintained during the day, even if it means that it is closed during the night. A joint reflection with the Adeps should reach an agreement on the modalities to be implemented by everyone for the reopening of the site while ensuring everyone’s safety.formulated Patricia Grandchamps.
Unsuccessful actions
In his response, Mayor Maxime Prévot (Les Engagés) returned to the comments he had made in October. “It was wrong to claim that on the part of the City of Namur we had not been informed, he corrected. And the person concerned mentions meetings which were held, in the presence of representatives of the police, from 2022. “Several avenues have been proposed, analyzed and implemented to address the many disadvantages of opening the site to everyone other than by closing the site: acquisition of video surveillance cameras, contact with Orès for the strengthening of public lighting, increase in visits by the police, sometimes even the cavalry, rapid actions after information, increase in administrative sanctions, placing the site in a tobacco-free zone. Adeps was therefore not alone in facing this issue, far from it. But despite these actions, the incivility and the problems denounced have not diminished.”
Reviewing the feedback from the file, Maxime Prévot also recalled that the Wallonia-Brussels Federation had been issued a permit by the Region authorizing it to secure the site by installing fences and gates. “On analysis of the file, the college, in all its components, issued a unanimous favorable opinion of its members and the safety of the center’s users was paramount in our decision. This closure is therefore carried out in perfect harmony with a permit obtained.”
“Undesirables don’t wait until night…”
Finally, the mayor rejected Patricia Grandchamps’ proposal to maintain access to the site during the day. “Closing only at certain times would not meet security needs. Undesirables do not wait until night to come. In addition, it is especially during the day, in the presence of children, that the most acute problems arise. The site will therefore be closed during the day as well. You highlight the quality of the Jambois journeys to request a reopening of the passage. But this quality cannot be achieved at the expense of safety issues.
In her reply, Councilor Ecolo again asked the mayor to whisper to the Federation the idea of rethinking the configuration of the premises by leaving a passage for the public, which would be independent of the Adeps site. “The suggestion will be relayed”assured Prévot.
