Competing in the Youth World Championships in Brazil, Manon Schippke, Augustin Droin and Timothée Razafindratsima did not manage to get on the podium, despite great victories.
The competition had started well for the three C’Chartres Échecs players. With four victories in five rounds (out of eleven) for Timothée and Manon, and three successes for Augustin, the young shoots were quickly well placed.
Three nuggets from the Chartres club shine at the world chess championship for 14-18 year olds
Unfortunately, the rest of the tournament was not of the same ilk. All three present in the top 5 with three rounds remaining, the French trio will have come up against formidable opponents, as was the case for Manon Schippke, opposed to the future women’s world champion, Olga Karmanova (2301 of ELO).
At the end of eleven rounds, the young Chartres will finish in very good places: Timothée will finish 5e and Augustine 13e out of 93 players among the men, while Manon will finish 10th among women, out of 55 players.
A good start to the European Championships
On the other side of the globe, in Montenegro, the seniors of the chess club are participating in the European Championships as individuals. With four rounds already played, out of eleven, the Chartrains are already off to a good start in the competition.
Daniel Dardha, Marc’andria Maurizzi and Rauf Mamedov are at 3.5 points out of 4, Laurent Fraissinet at 3, Maxime Lagarde at 2.5 and Vassily Ivanchuk at 2.
