Seven people were killed in a road accident this Tuesday evening in Eure-et-Loir, five young people aged 17 to 19 and a couple aged 80 and 85. There, the emotion is very strong.

A dramatic accident, with a terrible toll of seven deaths, in Eure-et-Loir. According to the first elements of the investigation, five young people aged 17 to 19 were driving this Tuesday evening on a departmental road near Bailleau-le-Pin when the driver lost control of the car.

“According to a direct witness, his speed was too high,” the Chartres prosecutor, Fréderic Chevallier, told us this Tuesday. This car would have deviated from its trajectory and collided head-on with another vehicle, a C4, which was arriving opposite. Inside, an 80-year-old man and his 85-year-old wife were killed by the shock. The first car then rolled over and hit a third, injuring two people, one seriously, before catching fire. The five passengers in this first vehicle all died.

The prosecutor emphasized this Tuesday evening that this departmental road was not known to be accident-prone. An investigation was opened for homicide and unintentional injuries, to determine the precise causes of the accident. Autopsies on the victims will take place in the coming days.

“They only had one child.”

In Bailleau-le-Pin, emotions are running high because all the victims were from the area. At the microphone of RMC, the mayor of this small town of Eure-et-Loir, south of Chartres, is devastated after this tragedy. “It’s horrible, testifies Martial Lochon, elected for 23 years. We are not mayor to manage these events. We are humble, powerless, devastated. We have had to manage families, it’s complicated… We try to make our contribution. The firefighters and the police are professional. It’s all human. There are seven families destroyed.

All the victims are from the surrounding area, from five different villages within 10-15 km around. “I have an 18-year-old from my town who died,” explains the mayor of Bailleau-le-Pin. “We have just seen the parents. I knew them by sight, not personally. They are discreet people who lived in heart of the village. They had only one child. Today, it is annihilation. The mayor is now awaiting the results of the investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident on this busy road, where 10,000 vehicles pass every day.
