In this ranking published Tuesday, on the second day of COP29 in Baku, Belgium finds itself 19th in this ranking, despite the respectable places it obtains in terms of emissions (in 8th place for current emissions and the 10th for projected emissions). But our country “is significantly less efficient than others in indicators linked to governance, in particular with regard to its 'net zero' objective and with regard to its contribution to multilateral transparency. If Belgium corrects these weak points, it could clearly improve in its ranking in the coming years”, estimate the authors of the ranking.
“Belgium has doubled its climate financing,” says De Croo at COP29
Is Austria in first place, notably thanks to its commitment to achieving “net zero”? (climate neutrality) 10 years before most developed countries. The Central European country is ahead of Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain and Japan. France is 9th, Italy 21st while Canada and the States occupy the penultimate (22nd) and last place (23rd).
In the future, the authors of this ranking intend to include more countries in their analysis.
