“Israeli footballers and supporters are welcome in Paris,” assures Benjamin Haddad

Invited on CNews this Tuesday, the minister responsible for Europe welcomed the presence of Emmanuel Macron and Michel Barnier in the stands.

Two days before a meeting “high risk”according to the expression of the police prefect, the government is determined to ensure the safety of Israeli supporters. And this, despite the call from the Israeli authorities not to go to the capital to attend the -Israel match, a week after the anti-Semitic attacks against several Maccabi Tel-Aviv supporters in Amsterdam. “Israeli footballers and supporters are welcome in Paris”said Benjamin Haddad, guest this morning on CNews.

For the Minister Delegate for Europe, “sport must be a moment of friendship between people, of celebration and of gathering”. In other words, we must not politicize sport, contrary to what La France insoumise (LFI) is doing, several elected officials calling for the match to be canceled. A meeting at which Emmanuel Macron and Michel Barnier will be present, a gesture welcomed by Benjamin Haddad: “I welcome the message sent by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister who will attend this match (…) It is a strong message of friendship and fraternity.”

“LFI used the Palestinian question as electoral fuel”

The former member of Parliament for Paris was indignant at the“explosion of anti-Semitic violence and hatred throughout Europe” since the terrorist attacks of October 7. As France is not spared by this wave which recalls the dark hours of history, the minister declared that “when we attack a Jew in France we attack France, the Republic”. Before pointing the finger at the responsibility of LFI, which he accuses of having “used the Palestinian question as electoral fuel”. To deal with the increase in anti-Semitic acts, Benjamin Haddad suggests fighting anti-Semitism at the European level.

The Minister Delegate for Europe took the opportunity to clarify the executive’s position on the conflict in the Middle East. “France calls for a ceasefire that can lead to the resumption of negotiations for a two-state political solution”he underlined, before asking “the unconditional release of the hostages” detained by Hamas, including two French nationals.
