In the Grande Garenne district of Angoulême, a fire devastated the Mozaïk socio-cultural center on Sunday evening. There is little doubt about the intentional nature of the fire: upon their arrival, firefighters found a car engulfed in flames, just in front of the building. The fire quickly spread to the MJC. The MJC of Grande-Garenne had already fallen prey to two fires, two months apart, in 2019, causing anger and the beginnings of psychosis among local residents. The building had recently been rebuilt, and there were many activities. However, there was no tension in recent months, assures the director of the Socio-Cultural Pole MJC Mozaïk.

Last year, during the riots of June 2023, the residents’ house in Basseau and the Soëlys center in Soyaux were burned down. The previous year, in 2022, it was the MJC Aragon in the Ma Campagne district which was destroyed by fire. The MJC Mozaïk socio-cultural center in Grande Garenne is not expected to reopen its doors for several weeks.
