LRomania dominated Ukraine (3-0) on the first day of Group E of Euro 2024 on Monday. Later in the evening, the Red Devils enter this group against Slovakia while the Romanians are in the lead.

Two of the three Romanian goals were scored by two former Jupiler Pro League players: former Anderlecht Nicolae Stanciu (29th) and ex-Standard player Razvan Marin (53rd). Denis Dragus, on loan from Rouches to Ganziatep, scored the third (57th).

After twenty minutes, Romania only had one opportunity while Ukraine had control of this meeting but without finding the fault in the defense of the Tricolores.

And yet, the opening score fell after half an hour on the Romanian side, thanks to a stroke of genius from Nicolae Stanciu. The former Anderlecht player recovered a poor clearance from Andriy Lunin and sent a curling shot to the entrance to the large rectangle, unstoppable for the Ukrainian goalkeeper (29th, 1-0).

Stanciu’s first goal totally galvanized the Tricolores who no longer let their opponent breathe. In the second half, Romania once again created a surprise by adding two goals to the scoreboard in the colors of Standard. On a lost ball on the edge of the rectangle, Razvan Marin (ex-Rouche) fired a powerful shot that Lunin struggled to catch (53rd, 2-0).

From a corner, and well served by Dennis Man, Denis Dragus, on loan this season from the Liège club in Turkey, stretched out his leg in front of an empty goal to make it 3-0 from close range (3-0).

Romania therefore takes the lead in Group E while Belgium and Slovakia face each other later in the day (6:00 p.m.). Ukraine is currently last.
