As mentioned above, Xbox had chosen continuity by largely adopting the design of the Xbox One controller. The layout of the buttons and joysticks remains the same, and should not disrupt your experience if you are used to it. This model is slightly more compact at 178 × 177 × 72 mm, for a weight of 540 g. The main innovation lies in the grips, a non-slip surface on the triggers and the back of the controller which offers better grip.
The other big news is the new hybrid D-Pad which has been redesigned. This was one of the rare defects of previous models, it has now been corrected according to Microsoft. It is mainly used for menu navigation, but also for certain 2D platform games. It is much more practical and works with a very audible “click” which allows you to clearly measure the feedback after actuation.
Microsoft has chosen to take inspiration from its competitor Sony by integrating a Share button on its controller, located in the center. As its name suggests, you can quickly share your sessions and highlights on social networks, at least from an Xbox Series. Currently, the feature is not available on PC.
Unsurprisingly, the Xbox Series X controller is simply one of the best models on the market. By taking the strengths of previous generations and incorporating good ideas in terms of comfort, the formula still works. The controller is compatible with Xbox consoles, PCs, Android Smartphones and soon Apple devices. It is delivered here in a completely wireless version via Bluetooth, and works (still) with batteries. However, you can use your own rechargeable batteries, or use Xbox One controller batteries. It is also possible to recharge the controller while playing, using the USB C port.
