This Monday morning took place the creation ceremony of the 6th light armored brigade whose headquarters is based in Nîmes.
It was in front of the arena that this founding act took place, on this day of commemoration of the armistice of November 11, 1918. ” It is also a day dedicated to honoring the commitment of our active and reserve soldiers. By choosing this date, General Valentin Seiler wanted to show the importance of the growth of reservists both to meet an operational need of the Army and to strengthen the link between the army and the nation. Faced with the scale of the upheavals in the world, the Army launched a profound transformation in 2023 » explains Colonel Vidal (Deputy General Commanding the 6th Light Armored Brigade). One of the objectives is to double the strength of the operational reserve by 2030 and to make it more operational in order to better contribute to the defense of the country and its citizens.
The new battalion is exclusively made up of reservists (formed from the reserve units of the brigade regiments. Its staff is also made up of reservists). The 6th BLB reserve battalion has four companies, or more than 200 soldiers. While ensuring the guarding of military areas, this reserve battalion could be responsible for operational defense missions of the national territory, aimed in particular at securing sensitive infrastructure, controlling areas or searching for intelligence, or even defending certain points if necessary. . If the operational situation required it, units could be temporarily placed under the authority of the reserve tactical staff.
