Emmanuel Macron commemorates this Monday, November 11, 2024, the 106th anniversary of the armistice of 1918. The ceremony will be held under the Arc de Triomphe, in the presence of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer.

This November 11 will be both “traditional and particular”, raised the Élysée on Friday, because placed “under the sign of Franco-British friendship” as this year we celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale between and the United Kingdom.

After an interview at the Élysée, the two leaders will lay a wreath in front of the statue of Georges Clemenceau, then in front of that of Winston Churchill, before going to the Place de l'Etoile. President Macron will lay a wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, rekindle the Flame and greet veterans and families of soldiers who died for France.

The French army choir will play the Marseillaise, preceded by the English anthem, God Save The King.

On November 11, 1944, General de Gaulle and Winston Churchill commemorated the Armistice under the Arc de Triomphe for the first time since the liberation of France.
