After a solid 2nd round of 67 strokes, synonymous with 2nd place overall, the Belgian Thomas Detry moved on Saturday to the shared 16th place of the 124th US Open of golf, endowed with 21.5 million dollars, with a 3rd round of 76 blows.

The competition takes place on the par-70 Pinehurst No. 2 Golf Course in the eponymous town of Pinehurst, North Carolina.

The 31-year-old from Brussels, who played his best golf on the second day with precise shots and sublime putting, had a false start with a bogey and a double bogey on his first two holes. After a birdie on the fifth (par-5), he had to concede three other bogeys on his first nine holes. A birdie followed at the tenth, however followed by two more bogeys on his last eight holes.

Thomas Detry ultimately needed nine more shots than in his second round and lost 14 places.

With his total score of 212 strokes, two more than par, he has nine strokes more than the American Bryson DeChambeau, who added the US Open to his record four years ago. Just behind him, we find, with three more shots, a trio composed of the American Patrick Cantlay, the Frenchman Matthieu Pavon and the Irishman Rory McIlroy, who was the best in 2011.
