The Auvergne Rhone-Alpes Football League was alerted to the violence suffered by teenagers and their parents on one of the Lyon-La Duchère fields. The aggressive attitude of a referee, manager of the Lyon club, would have ignited the powder.
A match without any sporting issues between teenagers completely degenerated during the weekend of November 3 on one of the fields of the Lyon-La Duchère football club. A simple playing foul resulted in an aggressive attitude on the part of a Lyon referee towards a Ponot player. The Puy players, aged 15 and 16, were chased onto the pitch by spectators and people from the club who were hosting the match. Their parents came down from the stands to protect them and were hit.
“It’s unimaginable. In 30 years of football, I have never seen something like this” testifies a member of the Puy Foot steering committee. The experienced man who followed this affair for Le Puy Foot says that “in the 44th minute of the friendly match, there was a banal foul play between two players. This justified a call to order against a player from Lyon. But the referee intervened in a very violent way. He wanted to hit the youngster. It escalated with people from Lyon chasing players from Le Puy on the field. stands to protect their children.”

The Haute-Loire players were able to be brought to safety in the locker rooms. But on the ground, while the educators of Lyon-La Duchère intervened to try to calm theirs, it was the Altiligarian parents who suffered the blows. “On the video, we see a mother being ejected 3 meters away,” describes the same source, shocked. The friendly meeting ended with punches in the face. The parents concerned had their injuries documented by medical certificates. Some were considering filing a complaint.
During the week, the president of Lyon-La Duchère contacted his Puy counterpart, Christophe Gauthier, by telephone to apologize. The Ponot club wishes to show its support for the victims of the violence by compiling a file which contains the medical certificates of the injured and the video of the playing foul, then of the general brawl. Everything was addressed to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Football League. It remains to be seen whether sanctions will be taken within the sporting body.
