The firefighters were alerted around midnight for a fire that had broken out within the “Triadis Rennes” company, located in the Haie des Cognets industrial zone in Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande. The Seveso classified site ensures the grouping, transit, sorting and pre-treatment of hazardous industrial and community waste. Around twenty firefighters were quickly mobilized to this fire, including a specialized team from the chemical risks unit. “The two fires were extinguished at 3 a.m. and the clearance was carried out” explains the prefecture in a press release which specifies “The absence of wind during the night limited the dispersion of the smoke which remained concentrated in the form of a plume vertical which did not reach the first dwellings located 600 m away from the site to the east. Following the fire, the extinguishing water was stored in retention to be analyzed and treated, as required by the procedure linked to Seveso classified sites. APAVE, specialized in risk management, should also intervene on site to carry out additional measures.
