Dangerous game or stroke of genius? With Murat Yakin, we always navigate between two extremes. For this first match of Euro 2024 in Germany, against Hungary, kicking off shortly at 3 p.m., he surprised everyone.
As we announced exclusively at the start of the morning, two surprise appointments are on the agenda: Kwadwo Duah, last minute invited to the training in Saint-Gall and selected in the 26 elected, will be lined up at the forefront of the Swiss attack; Michel Aebischer will also start the meeting. Xherdan Shaqiri will be on the bench, a luxury joker.
The choice of Duah comes at the expense of Zeki Amdouni and the first surprise is there. Duah, that’s 45 minutes at the forefront of the Swiss attack in total. It was Tuesday June 4 in Lucerne, for the friendly match against a weak Estonia (4-0 victory). He had not taken advantage of it: apart from an alert, he had remained transparent. Quite the opposite of Amdouni when he replaced him: a goal and a penalty obtained for the Genevan.
Michel Aebischer should be lined up on the left lane. Here too it’s surprising, it’s far from its natural profile. No doubt Yakin wants to block Bolla, excellent with Hungary against Israel. Dan Ndoye should therefore be placed a notch higher in the Swiss 3-4-3. And on the right, in front of Widmer, Vargas will be lined up. Shaqiri will therefore be on the bench, as a joker. Nothing surprising in this choice.
