LONDON (Reuters) – England’s Queen Camilla will not attend November 11 celebrations due to a lung infection, but she hopes to resume public activities early next week, Buckingham Palace said on Saturday .
The wife of King Charles canceled her engagements this week due to an infection which led her doctors to advise her to rest.
The 77-year-old queen will therefore be absent from the Remembrance ceremony organized on Saturday at the Royal Albert Hall in London and that of Sunday.
The traditional Cenotaph ceremony is held on the Sunday closest to November 11 to mark the end of the First World War and pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the conflict.
“Following doctors’ advice to ensure a full recovery from a seasonal chest infection and to protect others from any potential risk, Her Majesty will not attend this weekend’s Remembrance events,” a spokesperson said of the palace.
Princess Kate, 42, who is gradually returning to public engagements after preventative cancer treatment, will attend Remembrance Day commemorations alongside her husband Prince William, King Charles and other members of the royal family.
The Princess of Wales announced in September that she had completed chemotherapy, but that the road to a full recovery would be long.
Her last public appearance dates back to October when she met the families of three girls murdered during a dance class in the northwest of England.
Charles, himself being treated for cancer diagnosed in February, recently visited Australia and the Samoa Islands.
